A programme of archaeological Desk Based Assessment and Controlled Soil Strip was commissioned by R M Mackenzie during the development of a new house on Castle Street, Dornoch, Highland. These measures were designed to identify and record archaeological remains that may have survived upon the site, thereby satisfying the requirements of a Condition attached to planning consent. This work was undertaken on 3rd April 2023. Prior to this, a watching brief of GI test-pits was commissioned by a previous land-owner. This was undertaken on 13th February 2020. No archaeologically significant features, layers or artefacts were encountered during either phase of fieldwork. There was evidence of extensive prior test-pitting across the site, but there was no evidence that these had disturbed archaeologically significant layers. Given the negative archaeological results, no further work is recommended for this site.
