While our review of the literature reveals a rich body of citation analysis of Operations Management (OM) research, there has been very little emphasis investigating the determinants of citations. Thus, the primary purpose of this research is to rigorously investigate the determinants of citations in the field of OM. The source articles for the present study were 183 articles published in Production and Operations Management (POM) over the five-year period from 2003 to 2007. The total citations for each of these articles over the 17-year period beginning the year after publication were obtained from the Web of Science citation database. To investigate factors that impact article citations, the articles were classified on 16 dimensions. A variety of predictive methodologies were employed to investigate the determinants of citations including regression analysis, logistic regression analysis, and the use of classification and regression trees (CART). The research methodology employed by an article stood out as an important predictor of the citations the article received. The results also demonstrate the importance of adjusting for the activity level across research areas.
