Chinese patent medicines have prominent clinical value in emergency and critical care. Conducting research on the technical specifications for dispensing Chinese patent medicines in emergency and critical care is a key task in promoting the high-quality development of pharmaceutical services, which currently is restricted due to the narrow scope of research on dispensing of Chinese patent medicines in emergency and critical care, non-standardized dispensing processes, and a dearth of dispensing professionals. The group standard Technical Specifications for Dispensing Commonly Used Chinese Patent Medicines in Clinical Emergency and Critical Care, Part 1: General Rules (T/CACM 1378.1-2022, hereinafter referred to as the Specifications ), published by the China Association of Chinese Medicine and formulated by the Standardization Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine Dispensing at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, contributes to guiding the standardized development of dispensing techniques for commonly used Chinese patent medicines in clinical emergency and critical care. The Specifications stipulated 9 key technologies for dispensing commonly used Chinese patent medicines in clinical emergency and critical care, including purchase and acceptance inspection, inventory management, prescription review, prescription dispensing, prescription verification, drug distribution and medication instruction, medication monitoring, prescription evaluation, and pharmacovigilance. This study summarized and analyzed the current status of emergency drug dispensing, the narrow scope of emergency Chinese patent medicines dispensing, the lack of professional personnel, and the absence of standards based on the contents of the Specifications , and focused on interpreting the formulation process, core standard system, and promotion strategies of the Specifications . This study aimed to provide a reference for pharmacy staff involved in dispensing Chinese patent medicines in emergency departments and critical care departments of medical institutions at all levels and of various types nationwide, with the expectation of improving pharmaceutical service quality.
