Compression wave velocity (Vp) of sediments is crucial for accurately predicting seismic wave amplification of vertical ground motion and is essential for site response analysis. However, field exploration methods, such as surface wave methods, typically only provide shear wave velocity (Vs) profiles. This study aims to evaluate two Vs-based Vp prediction models derived from poroelastic theory, which account for the interaction between the fluid and soil skeleton. The first objective is to derive accurate solutions for these models and assess the errors associated with commonly used simplified models. The second objective is to evaluate the applicability of these models to different soil and rock types. The findings of this study will contribute to improved estimation of Vp profiles and more accurate site response analyses of vertical ground motion.
