A simple method for the quantitative determination of urea in seawater is described. It involves addition of urease and subsequent measurement of the liberated ammonia. Data are presented for coastal waters near La Jolla, California, and for coastal waters off central Peru. In the marine euphotic zone the cycle of supply and utilization of urea may be similar to that of ammonia.
