Performing numerical simulations and Abelian projection in SU (2) QCD, we find that Wilson loops composed of a residual U (1) gauge field alone show a strong enhancement when the Abelian projection is done in a U (1) -covariant gauge. Remarkably, the Creutz ratios determined from the Abelian Wilson loops approach the scaling curve with 58₋. Nonrenormalizable unitary gauges do not show such interesting types of behavior.
