Food security is a key aspect of sustainable regional development. Food production is an essential component of people's lives and the reproduction of labor. In addition, agriculture plays a key role in providing raw materials for many types of consumer goods and industrial products. The article carried out a comprehensive assessment of the level of food security of the Irkutsk region. The study is based on an analysis of key indicators: self-sufficiency, import coverage, purchasing power of the population and poverty level. Based on the calculations of these indicators, a conclusion was made about the current state of food security in the Irkutsk region and systemic problems were identified, including low self-sufficiency in milk and vegetables, a negative trade balance in the region and low purchasing power of the population. To strengthen the agro-industrial complex of the Irkutsk region, the introduction of digital technologies, the development of local industries and measures of state regulation are recommended. The article also emphasizes the importance of a differentiated approach to assessing food security, taking into account the geographical and climatic characteristics of the region.
