The Children's Attitudes toward the Environment Scale

Abstract The authors describe the development of a scale to measure environmental attitudes of grade-school children. The scale items reflect children's knowledge of environmental issues, and the scale uses an age-appropriate format. The 25 items that make up the scale were selected through item analysis from a larger pool of items. The internal-consistency reliability of the scale (Cronbach's alpha) ranged from .70 to .85. Test-retest reliability was .68. The authors discuss potential use of this scale for research and evaluation of programs.
