This chapter may be entitled "Critical Methodology of Research Which I Gradually Acquired in My Younger Years." Just before coming to this session of dictation I thought over the question of acquisition of my technique and found it very hard to pin down from what place, from what book or from what teacher, I acquired the methodology. It seemed to have been a long and gradual process, going back to my early teens. In my autobiographical chapters in Chinese I pointed out that in my early teens I was beginning to show a tendency to doubt, particularly on religious matters. I doubted many questions, revolted against a number of superstitions — ghosts, spirits, gods.
Hu Shih (Mon,) studied this question.
