Persistent Threat agents from across the world are ever evolving their technological techniques to gain access to these systems and the information within. The potential for harm that can be exploited through cybersecurity attacks has no bounds. We must analyze and learn from our experiences to further our exploration in solutions preventing, detecting and remediating these attacks. This article is designed to analyze the security incident regarding SolarWinds’ Orion Platform, the details of its occurrence, the influence on the individuals involved, the industry as a whole, the financial sector, and elements of SolarWinds’ incident response as well as potential contingency plans. This paper serves as a tool in the exploration of cybersecurity solutions by providing a case study on an unprecedented security incident.
