Abstract

Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image size AcknowledgementsSeveral articles included in this special issue (Khan, Makhaya and Roberts, Segatti and Pons-Vignon and von Holdt) are drawn from the South African part of a comparative research project on 'Institutions, governance and long-term growth' sponsored by the French Development Agency (AFD) and implemented by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS). We are grateful to AFD's research department, and to Nicolas Meisel in particular, for including us in this project which interrogates the intersection of accumulation, political stability and social order. The contents of this publication are the sole responsibility of their authors and can in no way be taken to reflect the views of the French Development Agency.
