Nursing executives are at the center of change. They are involved in the reenginnering of the workplace and often implement new procedures, in addition to downsizing staff. This article explores oppressed group behavior and its implications for nursing executives at this time of change in the health care system. The purpose of this exploration is to encourage a dialogue about its relevance in order to enhance empowerment and to break the cycle of oppression.
