Abstract

The two processes of aging and cohort succession underlie many of the changes and trends of concern to social scientists, and as the relevant data accumulate, better understanding of both individual and social change becomes more nearly attainable. The purpose of this article is to further such understanding by providing guideposts for the analysis of data that often appear to be deceptively simple.
