ABSTRACTCough is a common respiratory symptom that can significantly affect the quality of life whenpersistent or severe. Conventional antitussive medications, while effective, are often associatedwith side effects and limited patient compliance. Herbal remedies, on the other hand, offer asafer and more natural alternative due to their soothing and therapeutic properties. This studyfocuses on the formulation and evaluation of herbal lozenges, aiming to provide a convenientand patient-friendly dosage form for cough management. The research involved the selection of suitable herbal ingredients known for their cough-suppressing effects, such as Glycyrrhiza glabra (Liquorice), Trachyspermum ammi (Ajwain) and Zingiber officinale (Ginger). Herbal extracts were incorporated into lozenges using theheating and congealing method, along with appropriate excipients to ensure proper consistencyand stability. Multiple formulations were prepared and evaluated for physicochemicalparameters, including hardness, friability, weight variation, and disintegration time. The results indicated that all formulations met pharmacopeial limits and demonstratedsatisfactory mechanical strength and uniformity. The herbal lozenges showed controlledbehavior and good stability under selected conditions. Overall, the study concludes that herballozenges can be successfully formulated using natural ingredients and may serve as a safe, effective, and patient-friendly dosage form for the management of throat irritation and cough.
