This interview is a part of the “Punjabi in BC” oral history project (2019-2023). “Punjabi in BC” is comprised of interviews with over 50 K-12 teachers, language advocates, journalists, and writers who have contributed to the life of the Punjabi language in British Columbia, Canada.The subject of this interview, Dilpreet Bharaj, was a fourth-year Pharmacology student at UBC when she joined the “Punjabi in BC” project as an oral history interviewer. Born in India and immigrating to Canada at a young age, she grew up in a Punjabi-speaking household but mainly conversed in English. At UBC, Dilpreet's involvement in Punjabi studies boosted her confidence in the language. This interview includes one promotional video, in addition to the full interview. In the interview, Dilpreet Bharaj speaks about her initial struggles with speaking Punjabi, and connecting with Punjabi culture in high school. She highlights how Punjabi classes at UBC has deepened her relationship with the language.
