In the operation of a ball mill, rotation rate and filling rate are the key and easily controlled operating variables, which significantly affect the grinding efficiency and energy consumption of the ball mill. This study utilized a ϕ420mm × 200mm experimental ball mill to investigate the grinding performance of dolomite particles under various filling and rotation conditions. The results indicate that the ore grinding rate first increased then decreased. Conversely, the unit energy consumption for particles <0.1 mm first decreased then increased. The minimum unit energy consumption(64.82 J/g) was achieved at a 30% filling rate and 70% rotation rate.
