NGO's Influence on Educational Development in Rivers State: Periscoping Brothers across Nigeria International

This paper explored NGO’s Influence on Educational Development in Rivers State: Periscoping Brothers across Nigeria International. The paper adopted survey research design which involves the use of both primary and secondary data. The theory of empowerment was adopted while a sample of 390respondents were drawn from staff of the various organizations with beneficiaries across 9 schools in the three (3) Senatorial Districts in Rivers State. Data were analysed using the 4-Likert scale option of Strongly Agreed (SA), Agreed (A), Disagreed (D) and Strongly Disagreed (SD). Findings reveal that funding, poor partnership and collaboration, political influence, substandard materials, poor coordination, cheap labour, and weak infrastructural support were identified issues associated with Brothers across Nigeria International while public neglect, excessive political influence, obsolete bureaucratic application, and lack of transparency were factors responsible for poor educational development in Rivers State. Based on this, the paper recommended that Brothers across Nigeria International should collaboration with state agencies, law makers, oil multinational investors and philanthropists to address legal lapses and poor funding while create avenues for harnessing resources, pooling of funds, and adopting industry-based educational curriculum to improve learning outcomes. The Rivers State government should ensure that the NGO’s priorities are protected from political excessiveness to foster grassroots educational development initiatives while dismantling unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles to boost public trust. Brothers across Nigeria International should liaise with the government to strengthen infrastructural development programmes that would be sustainable to educational development effort.
