The role of radiation pressure gradients in directly generating magnetic fields in laser-produced plasmas is discussed. The mechanism is related to the thermal sources of magnetic field discussed in earlier work in that a solenoidal electric field is produced by the radiation pressure gradient.
Stamper et al. (1973) studied this question.
