It is fortunate that Albrecht Kossel, just before his death, completed the manuscript for this important publication. The presentation of the material is done in the masterly, simple and unassuming style one might expect. It is indeed encouraging to find that so great an authority as the author has been so extremely modest and cautious in his statements. Attention is called repeatedly to the need of extending the work in this field and in particular to the need of preparing purer protamines and of developing or applying better methods of analysis.
