Abstract

Surviving in pesantren in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic is not easy. Several regulations concerning health protocols have interfered with the order of life in pesantren and require the ability to adapt to all life in them, including santri. Several regulations that contradict the pesantren culture often have an impact on the emergence of maladaptive behavior in santri as a reaction to changes in lifestyle that are difficult to accept. Maladaptive behavior is one of the triggers of mental health problems that can be prevented through strength on resilience. This study aims to provide a description of the innovative form of the holistic approach applied by pesantren to build santri resilience when they have to stay in the pesantren even during the pandemic. This research was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Miftahul Huda, Banyumas Regency, Central Java with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and interviews with caregivers, administrators and several students. The results of the study indicate that there is a holistic approach applied to santri through various innovative activities in pesantren such as in education, religion, economics, health, and social. Policies based on empowering the potential of Islamic boarding schools with religious humanist nuances as part of a holistic approach, contribute significantly to creating adaptability and strength on the resilience of students even though they live far from their families.
