Survey of the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding sterilization techniques among healthcare staffs working in central sterile supply department

ABSTRACT Introduction: Hospital-acquired infection (HAI) or nosocomial infection frequently causing infections among healthcare staff workers and in patients. Increased length of hospital stay, emotional stress, disability, and mortality of patients, as well as increased costs for both patients and providers, are all the consequences of nosocomial infections. To prevent these illness, hospital require excellent disinfection and sterilization technologies, which are now integrated into a single department known as the central sterile supply department (CSSD). Aim and Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the survey of the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding sterilization techniques among healthcare staffs working in CSSD at a tertiary care hospital. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted by the department of microbiology. The study is the observational and hospital survey-based study. A structured observation check list and questionnaire was prepared to study the staff knowledge, attitude, and practice toward the use of sterilization techniques. Conclusion: We conducted a survey and we discovered that our hospital CSSD staff members are having considerable knowledge with positive outlook, along with proper practice of sterilization techniques. We recommend to conduct this type study for CSSD to improve their sterilization knowledge and practice to reduce the HAIs or nosocomial infections.
