Abstract

Flood is a natural calamity that occurs in Assam during the monsoon season as a result of heavy rainfall and the geoclimatic conditions. Assam contains a huge network of rivers, including the Brahmaputra and Barak, as well as their tributaries which is the main causes of flood. The objectives of the paper were to explore the causes of flood in assam, to study the socio-economic of flood in assam and to discuss the major steps initiated by the government. This paper is descriptive study which is based on secondary sources data. The study collected the data from different secondary sources like journals, new papers, reports, internet, text books and different governmental websites or departments such as Water Resource Information System of India, water resource department of Assam, Brahmaputra Board etc. this paper revealed that Brahmaputra Valley have a significant role in flood in Assam which impact on the region's socioeconomic and environmental conditions. Floods damaged crops, humans, and animals.
