Key Points

  • Sodium starch glycolate showed rapid disintegration efficiency in piracetam tablets, optimizing drug release.
  • The optimized formulation P7 demonstrated a drug release rate of 99.24%, indicating high effectiveness.
  • Formulations were created using direct compression method to evaluate various efficiency metrics of disintegrants.
  • Results suggest sodium starch glycolate outperforms other superdisintegrants for immediate drug release in tablets.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the disintegrants efficiency of the three super disintegrants Cross Povidone, Crosscarmellose sodium and Sodium starch glycolate by formulating Piracetam immediate release tablets by direct compression method. Disintegration efficiency of powder disintegrants compared by swelling and hydration capacity of disintegrants. Nine formulations having superdisintegrants at different concentration level were prepared. While efficiency of disintegrants in tablets compared by various test like weight variation, friability, hardness, thickness, disintegration time, drug content and dissolution studies of Piracetam immediate release tablets. The rapid disintegration observed for the Sodium starch glycolate containing tablets comparing three classes of super disintegrants represented by Sodium starch glycolate. Among all the formulations P7 was consider as optimized formulation containg of Sodium starch glycolate with drug release of 99.24%.
