Abstract

The presence of diastemas and open gingival embrasures, commonly referred to as black triangles, may affect the appearance of a smile. These spaces can often arise from periodontal disease, orthodontic relapse or from natural tooth morphology. This article highlights the various direct management strategies for black triangles using composite resin. A contemporary restorative workflow involving appropriate case selection, anatomical considerations, matrix selection, layering protocols and the use of polishing is discussed to guide clinicians in achieving predictable, durable and aesthetic outcomes. CPD/Clinical Relevance: Direct management strategies for black triangles using composite resin are discussed to guide clinicians with achieving predictable, durable and aesthetic outcomes.
