Implementation of Environmental Principles in the Republic of Serbia

The implementation of environmental protection principles in the Republic of Serbia faces a series of challenges. These challenges primarily relate to establishing substantive rather than purely formal application of legal regulations and international strategies. Although the normative framework, including the Law on Environmental Protection and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, is clearly defined, an administrative approach to the topic prevails in the economic sector. This paper analyzes problems such as non-compliance with waste management plans, lack of infrastructure and operators, as well as formalism in the application of ISO standards. A model is proposed that includes education, tax incentives, and the engagement of expert consulting firms to support the economy. Through mathematical calculations of savings, it is shown that environmentally responsible business is not only a regulatory obligation but also an economically profitable practice
