Abstract

Motivation: MR-guided in-bore prostate biopsy is typically performed at 1.5 or 3T via transrectal or percutaneous transperineal approaches. Feasibility of performance at lower field and using a percutaneous transgluteal approach is uncertain. Goal(s): The feasibility of a percutaneous transgluteal approach for in-bore MRI-guided prostate biopsies was explored. Approach: With IRB approval, 13 participants were biopsied at 0.55T under moderate sedation. Results: 10/13 participants (77% cancer detection rate) and 12/15 lesions (80%) had positive cores. 70% of cases affected management. Impact: Percutaneous transgluteal in-bore MRI-guided prostate biopsy is effective and offers an anesthesia-sparing option aligning with existing skills of CT interventionalists.
