Abstract

The integration of social media into everyday life has revolutionised communication, learning and professional interactions. For student nurses, platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram have become essential tools, providing opportunities for collaboration, sharing information and peer support. However, the inappropriate use of these platforms poses substantial risks to students' fitness to practise, for reasons including violations of professional conduct and patient confidentiality. This article examines the educational benefits of social media, the associated risks to professionalism and patient care, and the wider implications for fitness to practise. It also outlines practical guidelines for safe and responsible use to help nursing students maintain professional standards and safeguard patient trust.
