Abstract

Abstract The empirical log rule, derived by the method of least squares from the sawlog consumption and concomitant lumber production over a sequence of working days at the sawmill, is applied to the solution of two forestry problems: the effect of species groups upon the lumber produced from sawlogs of given dimension, and the distribution of lumber production among standard lumber grades.
