OCD can be highly distressing for both individuals and families. While evidence for the effectiveness of family-based treatments has grown, literature lacks discussion of best practices for systemically addressing family accommodation (FA) and other family factors in OCD treatment. This paper aims to integrate best practices from individual and systemic models of therapy for adolescent OCD and to further discussion on the application of MFT-based models. This discussion is oriented by Sue & Sue's (2002) conceptualization of clinical competence on therapist knowledge, awareness, and skills to support effective systemic treatment for this population.
