Abstract

Significance The Supreme Court of Justice voted on March 12 to confirm her appointment. She obtained 18 out of 23 votes and will serve a four-year term. She was nominated by President Gustavo Petro, who, prior to the vote, had warned of an “institutional rupture” over the Court’s delay in selecting an appointee from his list of nominees. Impacts Fragile trust in the Attorney General’s Office will be tested going forward. Judicial impediments to the government’s total peace strategy will likely subside under Camargo. Petro is unlikely to incite protests against Camargo as he has done previously with the Supreme Court and the attorney general.
