Abstracts of the 2025 Global Health Workforce Barcelona

The Scientific Committee for Abstract Submission of the 13th ICOH Joint Conference on Occupational Health for Health Workers, held in Barcelona as part of the Global Health Work-force Barcelona, was chaired by Dr. Gwen Brachman (University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, USA). The review process was conducted by four additional commit-tee members: Dr. William G. Buchta (Division of Preventive, Occupational, and Aerospace Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA), Dr. Claudia De Hoyos (University of Buenos Aires,Argentina), Dr. Albert Nienhaus (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany), and Dr. Acran Salmen-Navarro (Bellevue/NYU Occupational and Environmental MedicineClinic, USA). All abstract submissions underwent a rigorous, blinded peer-review process. Each reviewer independently assessed the abstracts and assigned a score from 0 to 5, with 0 representing the lowest and 5 the highest rating, accompanied by qualitative comments. Following individual evaluations, the scores were consolidated to obtain an average rating and a synthe-sis of reviewers’ comments. Based on these results, abstracts were recommended for oral presentations (higher scores) or poster presentations (lower scores). Abstracts that did notmeet the scientific objectives of the committees or the overarching aims of the conference were not included. This systematic and transparent selection process ensured that the scientific content presented at the Barcelona conference reflects both academic rigor and practical relevance to the challenges faced by the global health workforce. The conference, organized within the framework of the Global Health Workforce Barcelona, continues the initiative launched in New York to promote international collaboration aimed at improving the working conditions, health, and well-being of healthcare professionals worldwide. Furthermore, the 2025 edition in Barcelona integrates a gender perspective and builds upon the collaboration among ICOH Scientific Committees, including the Scientific Committee on Occupational Health for Health Workers Women and Work Committee, the Industrial Hygiene Committee, and the Biological Risk Committee and Women in Global Health. Together, these efforts reaffirm a shared commitment to sustainable health systems, gender equity, and the advancement of leadership in occupational health.
