Key Points

  • This paper explores the possibility of unifying gauge and gravity couplings at 1 TeV utilizing string theory with extra dimensions.
  • Examined the role of extra large dimensions in gauge and gravity coupling unification.
  • Discussed how Type I string theory can satisfy proton decay bounds.
  • Illustrated scenarios using a 4-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric chiral Type I string model.
  • Demonstrated potential unification of gauge and gravitational couplings at a low energy scale of 1 TeV.
  • Showed satisfaction of proton decay bounds within the Type I string framework.
  • Outlined features that are likely to be general in other Type I string scenarios.

Abstract

Utilizing the idea of extra large dimensions, it has been suggested that the and gravity couplings unification can happen at a scale as low as 1 TeV. this paper, we explore this phenomenological possibility within string. In particular, we discuss how the proton decay bound can be satisfied Type I string theory. The string picture also suggests different scenarios gauge and gravitational couplings unification. The various scenarios are illustrated with a specific 4-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric chiral I string model with Pati-Salam-like gauge symmetry. We point out certain that should be generic in other Type I strings.
