'Circus Field' Land at Junction of Limburg Avenue and Walsall Road, Lichfield, Staffordshire

An archaeological evaluation on behalf of CgMs Heritage, involving excavation of seven trial trenches, has revealed various discrete and linear features concentrated towards the site's southern and western margins. Two pits in trench 1 contained notable quantities of heat-cracked pebbles, indicating a potential Bronze Age or early Iron Age date, while a linear gully in trench 2 could be traced east across the site to trench 4. Many of the gullies correspond to the orientation of nearby roads and former agricultural strip plots, suggesting a medieval or earlier date.
