Mental Health Stigma Among Men in Zimbabwean Township Communities: A Literature-Based Comparative Study.

This study examines the prevalence, manifestations, and impacts of mental health stigma among men residing in Zimbabwean township communities. Using a literature-based comparative approach, the research synthesizes existing studies on mental health perceptions, social attitudes, and cultural norms that influence men’s help-seeking behaviors. It explores how traditional beliefs, gender expectations, and socioeconomic factors contribute to stigma, and compares findings from Zimbabwe with other Sub-Saharan African contexts to identify common patterns and unique challenges. The study highlights the consequences of stigma on mental health outcomes and access to care, emphasizing the urgent need for culturally sensitive interventions and community-based mental health education programs. This research is intended for mental health practitioners, policymakers, and scholars interested in gender, culture, and public health in African contexts.
