The Unified Cognitive Operating System (Cognitive OS) proposes a generative, layered architecture of cognition that explains how meaning, time, and understanding arise within cognitive agents. The framework begins with a minimal ontology—Self, Other, Relation—and develops a four‑layer generative model (L0–L3) that distinguishes deep embodied constraints from surface expressions. Meaning is treated as a directional, irreversible transformation from generative potential to residue, a process termed chronogenesis. The paper formalizes communication as deep‑layer synchronization rather than surface‑level information exchange, introducing the Assumption Kernel as the structural basis for genuine understanding. It further analyzes existential dynamics such as suffering, love, semantic stasis, and the system’s intrinsic tendency toward high‑load cognitive states.
