This research note considers the relationship between a community’s tourism intensity and its residents’ “happiness.” The findings of the study, based upon community-based statistics and tourism employment data for 179 US cities, indicate that those who live in more tourism-intensive municipalities are generally happier than are those who live in communities less dependent on their visitor economy.
