Key Points

  • The central aim is to create a portable device, the Genetic Lab, for genomic analysis in space without relying on internet connectivity.
  • Design and development of the Genetic Lab device
  • Focus on offline DNA sequencing capabilities
  • Assessment of device performance in space-like conditions
  • Provides a reliable alternative to online genomic analysis methods
  • Enables rapid genetic investigation of astronaut health
  • Reduces dependency on space connectivity issues

Abstract

Genomic analysis is a crucial aspect of space exploration, enabling researchers to investigate the genetic mechanisms underlying astronaut health and disease. However, current methods for analyzing DNA sequences rely on online resources, which can be limited by connectivity issues and data transfer rates in space environments. To address this challenge, we propose the development of a dedicated device called the Genetic Lab, a portable system designed for rapid, offline genomic analysis.
