Abstract

The reciprocity between celibacy and contemplative prayer is clear, as the former nurtures contemplative immediacy to God, while the latter serves as a lifeline for a celibate life. The crises in apostolic religious life are often attributed to a lack of prayer, resulting from the demands of ministerial and professional responsibilities and interpersonal interactions. This article explores the role of contemplative prayer in the ‘intimate’ dimension of apostolic religious life, suggesting that contemplative prayer is the central support system that helps a celibate achieve intimacy with God and others.
