Abstract

Abstract Background/Introduction The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases increases exponentially with advancing age. The significance of biological age is differing from chronological age and the factors contributing to accelerated aging remain unknown. Purpose Investigation of the significance of biological age and its relationship with traditional risk factors in patients suffering an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods The study investigates patients with acute myocardial infarction from the VMAJOR-MI-BIOAGE prospective registry. Based on traditional risk factors (positive family history, previous infarction, acute coronary syndrome, percutaneous coronary intervention, coronary artery bypass graft, known chronic coronary syndrome, smoking, physical activity, sleep habits, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia), the patients were divided into two groups. Group A: Patients with fewer than three risk factors. Group B: Patients with three or more risk factors. The biological age was determined using three different validated neural network-based methods (Visual Geometry Group, ResidualNetwork, Prisoner) based on portrait photographs. Results The B risk group (n=137) exhibited significantly accelerated aging compared to the A group (n=60), based on both the RestNet (p 0.001) and Prisoner photo age estimations (p 0.001). Patients in the B group had a significantly higher prevalence of previous cardiovascular events in their medical history (p 0.001). The prevalence of diabetes was 11.7% in the A group, whereas it was significantly higher in the B group at 42.4% (p 0.001). Hypertension was present in 65% of the A group and 92% of the B group, indicating a significantly higher prevalence in the B group (p = 0.001). The incidence of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) was 63.3% in the A group and 43.1% in the B group, which was significantly lower in the B group (p = 0.001). In the total study population (n=197), physical inactivity (p =0,03), hyperlipidemia (p 0.001), and accelerated aging were found to be associated. Conclusion Based on our data, biological age and age acceleration add a new risk factor to traditional risk factors leading acute myocardial infarction.accelerated age Group A and B
