Environmental concerns over persistent plastic pollution are driving the rise of biodegradable alternatives. However, these materials may release more harmful oligomer nanoparticles than traditional plastics. Largely overlooked and difficult to detect, these particles pose significant environmental and biotoxicity risks, highlighting an urgent need for detailed mechanistic understandings of their life cycle.
