Key Points

  • The research aims to understand the injury patterns among Slovenian sport climbers and factors influencing these injuries.
  • Conducted a survey of Slovenian sport climbers regarding their injury experiences and preventive routines.
  • Analyzed the data for correlations between gender, route selection, and injury types.
  • Assessed the role of preventive routines in injury occurrence.
  • Recommended biomechanical assessments for future studies.
  • Finger and shoulder injuries were the most common types reported.
  • Behavioral differences in injuries were noted between genders based on route selection.
  • Preventive routines did not significantly reduce injury frequency, indicating a need for more specialized programs.

Abstract

Slovenian climbers exhibit a high injury burden, dominated by finger and shoulder injuries. Gender differences appear behavioral, reflecting route selection rather than exposure. Preventive routines were not associated with lower injury frequency, highlighting the need for specific, climbing-oriented programs, such as a joint-by-joint training approach. Future prospective studies should incorporate objective biomechanical assessments, to refine prevention and rehabilitation strategies.
