Key Points

  • The aim is to assess the characteristics and prevalence of apical scarring in a healthy population using chest CT scans.
  • Analysis of chest CT scans in a healthy population
  • Evaluation of apical scarring and its association with age
  • Assessment of body habitus and lesion progression over time
  • Apical scarring prevalence increases with age
  • Individuals with lean body types show higher prevalence
  • Extensive baseline lesions are more likely to progress over time

Abstract

In individuals without underlying causes known to cause pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis, apical scarring at chest CT was more prevalent with age, associated with a lean body habitus, and more likely to progress over time when baseline lesions were more extensive.
