HKHiroka KOCHIYNYusuke NAKAMURAGHGakuhito HIRASAWA

Key Points

  • The aim is to develop a method for efficiently panelizing curved wooden structures while minimizing waste.
  • Proposed a two-stage panelization method involving k-means clustering for fitting material constraints.
  • Increased panel count followed by refining cluster boundaries to reduce waste.
  • Implemented CNC machining with a six-axis robotic arm for fabrication.
  • Achieved improved material utilization in curved wooden structures.
  • Demonstrated cost efficiency through refined fabrication methods.

Abstract

This research proposes a two-stage panelization method for curved wooden structures, balancing material efficiency and fabrication feasibility. Panel count is first increased using k-means clustering to fit material constraints, then reduced by refining cluster boundaries to minimize waste. CNC machining with a six-axis robotic arm demonstrated improved material utilization and cost efficiency.
