Key Points

  • The aim is to synthesize substituted amides with sulfonamide groups and evaluate their antioxidant and anticancer activities.
  • Synthesized seven new substituted amides (3a–3g) characterized by FT-IR and NMR techniques.
  • Determined melting points using capillary melting point apparatus.
  • Investigated antioxidant capacity and anticancer effects of compound 3b in vitro, testing concentrations from 25 to 400 μg/mL on A549 and Caco-2 cells.
  • Compound 3b exhibited the highest antioxidant capacity among the synthesized compounds.
  • At 25 μg/mL, compound 3b showed the greatest cell viability against A549 and Caco-2 cancer cell lines.

Abstract

This work involved the synthesis of a new series of substituted amides containing a sulfonamide group. Seven new compounds 3a–3g were prepared for the first time. These compounds were characterized using spectroscopic techniques, including FT-IR, 1H, and 13C NMR. In addition, their melting points were determined using a capillary melting point apparatus, and their color was observed visually. The activity of the synthesized compound showing the highest antioxidant capacity at different concentrations (compound 3b) was investigated for anticancer effects in vitro, with concentrations ranging from 25 to 400 μg/mL, using A549 and Caco-2 cells. Compound 3b showed the highest cell viability against A549 and Caco-2 cancer cell lines at the lowest tested concentration (25 μg/mL).
