Key Points

  • The aim is to analyze the behavior of solutions for a specific system of viscoelastic wave equations under damping effects.
  • Utilized the Faedo-Galerkin method for proving existence and uniqueness of solutions.
  • Applied linearization technique for the nonlinear components of the equations.
  • Established sufficient conditions for solution behavior.
  • Constructed energy functionals to analyze energy decay.
  • Proved local existence and uniqueness of solutions for the coupled system.
  • Showed that the energy of solutions generally decays as time approaches infinity.

Abstract

This paper examines a coupled system of Kirchhoff-Carrier-type viscoelastic wave equations with Balarkrishnan-Taylor damping. The local existence and uniqueness of solutions for the given problem are proved by utilizing the Faedo-Galerkin method and linearization technique for nonlinear components. Additionally, by establishing sufficient conditions and constructing appropriate energy functionals, the energy of the solution generally decays as time approaches infinity.
