Abstract

• High gain common-grounded multi-port converter is designed. • Novel CGMPC for EVs achieves 10 times higher voltage gain than inputs. • Detailed steady-state and stress analysis compared with existing works. • Small-signal analysis with compensator ensures improved stability. • MATLAB/Simulink validation with open and closed-loop performance. • 200 W prototype validates theoretical, simulation, and hardware results. This article presents Common Grounded Multi-Port DC-DC Converter (CGMPC) for Electric-Vehicle(EV) applications. Existing conventional and interleaved converters to obtain high-gains they require higher duty cycles, so that voltage stress on switches and diodes increases, which leads to more losses and reduced efficiency. To enhance this issue, a multi-port converters like CGMPC is designed in this article. The proposed converter key properties are it has two inputs and one output port. The developed converter will have high voltage gain using a structure based on switched-inductor and switched-capacitor circuits, common grounding between the inputs and the load ports, improved voltage gain and current flow is continuous which can be suitable for many applications. This study investigates the fundamental working mechanism, steady-state characteristics, dynamic analysis, achievable voltage gains, small-signal analysis, and overall efficiency of the proposed CGMPC. A comprehensive analysis compares the CGMPC with existing high-voltage-gain configurations reported in existing research. The evaluation emphasizes key aspects such as component count, achievable voltage gain, stress on power devices, operational power levels, and overall performance. Additionally, a prototype with a 200W and 300V capability is developed, and its experimental results are thoroughly examined in this study.
