The Nile Basin in Ethiopia is facing significant water scarcity challenges, which have led to potential conflicts over resource distribution among riparian states. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys, interviews, and stakeholder workshops to gather data from diverse sources across the Nile Basin. Water scarcity has resulted in a significant increase (30%) in water-related disputes among local communities over access to irrigation water resources. The study highlights that community-based conflict resolution mechanisms can significantly reduce tensions and promote sustainable resource management. Policy makers should prioritise the establishment of water-user associations and establish clear guidelines for equitable water allocation protocols.
