Abstract

In South Africa, district hospitals play a crucial role in healthcare delivery, but their reliability varies significantly across different regions. The study employs a multilevel logistic regression model to assess system reliability at both district (level-1) and provincial (level-2) levels, accounting for contextual factors such as local healthcare infrastructure and population density. A key finding was that the presence of adequate medical personnel at district level significantly improved the overall system reliability by a proportion of 30% compared to districts with insufficient staffing. The multilevel regression analysis provided insights into the complex interplay between district and provincial factors affecting hospital reliability, offering a nuanced understanding for policy makers.
