Efficient inactivation of Microcystis aeruginosa by carbon microtube-supported magnetic photocatalysts under visible light

WQWenli QinXZXinyi ZhangJYJinyu Ye

Key Points

  • The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of magnetic photocatalysts in degrading the algae Microcystis aeruginosa and its associated toxins.
  • Preparation of C–TiO2–Fe3O4 and C–TiFe2O4 as photocatalysts
  • Testing photocatalysts under visible light to inactivate Microcystis aeruginosa
  • Assessment of effectiveness in degrading the toxin MC-LR
  • The magnetic photocatalysts significantly reduced the presence of Microcystis aeruginosa
  • Effective degradation of the harmful toxin MC-LR was observed
  • Technologies demonstrated scalability and sustainability for water treatment

Abstract

The prepared magnetic photocatalysts, C–TiO 2 –Fe 3 O 4 and C–TiFe 2 O 4 , are sustainable and scalable technologies to mitigate HABs and degrade MC-LR in contaminated water systems.
