Abstract

The South African secondary school system has faced challenges in recent years, with issues related to educational outcomes and resource allocation. A Bayesian hierarchical model will be applied to analyse data from various secondary schools across different regions. The model will incorporate uncertainty through robust standard errors and confidence intervals. The analysis revealed significant variations in school performance, with some schools showing substantial gains in efficiency compared to others. The findings suggest that the implementation of targeted interventions could lead to improved educational outcomes across South Africa's secondary school system. Investment should be prioritised in areas where schools demonstrate lower efficiency, while also considering regional disparities and contextual factors. Model estimation used =argmin_ᵢ (yᵢ, f_ (xᵢ) ) +₂², with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
